Zimbabwean arrested with 11 kg of heroin at Maputo International Airport

A Zimbabwean national heading for Ethiopia was arrested at Maputo International Airport on Saturday carrying 11 kilograms of heroin.
The 39-year-old woman was detained at around 11 a.m. as she was heading for the international departure lounge for the Ethiopia flight, a false bottom in her suitcase concealing the drug, according to a report in O País.
According to the same source, the authorities’ alertness uncovered the scheme and the perpetrator is in police custody as the origin of the drug is investigated.
The accused declined to make a statement to the press.
From her passport, the woman was found to have passed through three other countries in less than a week, namely Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, and had entered Mozambique on the 8th of this month at the Ressano Garcia border post.
The police had no comment on the matter.
