Zambia and Mozambique are considering developing a joint electricity generation project in Mozambique’s Tete Province.
Mozambican President Daniel Chapo says his country’s Ministry of Energy will next month host its Zambian counterparts to further examine the project and explore joint investment opportunities in the proposed Mphanda Nkuwa Dam on the Zambezi River, which is expected to generate an additional 1,500 megawatts of electricity.
Speaking during a bilateral meeting with President Haikande Hichilema at State House in Lusaka, President CHAPO said the joint investment would benefit both countries through increased power generation.
He added that Mozambique is also developing gas power stations in Tete Province, which could be considered for joint ventures.
