Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, S.C., M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Zambia, and Her Excellency Maria Manuela Dos Santos Lucas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique, yesterday in Lusaka, co-chaired the Ministerial Meeting held ahead of the Working Visit to Zambia by His Excellency Mr. Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of the Republic of Mozambique.
During the opening session, Hon. Haimbe noted that the meeting marks a moment of great promise in translating shared aspirations into tangible results that would benefit both countries. The Minister highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two nations, rooted in historical solidarity, and underscored the need to elevate this partnership through practical action and focused implementation.
Hon. Haimbe indicated that among key outcomes expected from President Chapo’s Working Visit is the signing of the One-Stop Border Post Agreement at Chanida–Cassacatiza, which aims to enhance trade efficiency, reduce transit times, and improve border management. The Minister stated that the agreement speaks directly to the shared commitment to facilitating trade and improving border efficiency.
The Minister also called for the acceleration of strategic infrastructure projects such as the Beira–Ndola Petroleum Pipeline, electricity interconnector, and the development of the Beira, Nacala, and Macuse corridors, describing them as instruments of transformation that can unlock the full potential of regional growth.
He further emphasised the importance of people-to-people diplomacy through cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges, noting that deeper connections between citizens would reinforce the strategic alliances forged at government level.
Hon. Haimbe reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to working with Mozambique within SADC and the African Union to promote peace, regional integration, trade, and climate resilience. He concluded by urging both delegations to move from intent to impact and prepare a package of clear, focused, and deliverable outcomes that will contribute to improving the lives of citizens in both countries.
In her remarks, Her Excellency Maria Manuela Dos Santos Lucas noted that Zambia and Mozambique have several areas of cooperation, including transport, agriculture, and trade, and said the meeting was an opportunity to further elevate this diplomatic relationship. She also expressed gratitude to Zambia for its role during Mozambique’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and highlighted that the relations between the two countries extend back to the liberation struggle.
The Minister expressed optimism that the Ministerial Session would serve as a cornerstone for producing clear and focused deliverables ahead of the Official Talks between the two Heads of State on Thursday.
