Two Nagy Investments buses transporting government troops were attacked on Saturday 19 March by supposed armed Renamo men in Zambezia province, Canalmoz reports.
The attack occurred in the Cardoso region, Sambauarendo, Chimuara, Mopeia district, in Zambezia province as the buses, carrying about 200 men, were travelling to Gorongosa.
According to Renamo military sources, the ambush occurred at the bridge over the Chirabha river, and the two buses were strafed with intense fire at close range as a result of information about the transport of soldiers to Gorongosa being received.
According to Canalmoz sources, there were fatalities besides the bus drivers.
Renamo also reported that government forces were seen crossing Alto Molócuè on Friday and heading for Murrupula in Nampula province, where clashes have been reported recently.
Burnt Renamo headquarters in Ile
Other news from Zambezia allege that Frelimo supporters were behind the burning down on Thursday night of the Renamo headquarters in Socone administrative post, Ile district.
The district’s Renamo political delegate has filed a case with the police and is awaiting the result of the authorities’ investigation. “There are no victims to mourn from this criminal act,” a Renamo source said.
Morrumbala
Jose Cachorro, a family member of citizens abducted last week said that the victims are still missing.
Cachorro said abducted Morrumbala citizens still missing include Garden Nssussuke (pastor of the Church of the Nazarene from Nawela), Rafael Gonçalves Ndzero (village head and son of the Ndzero ‘´regulo’, traditional chief), Rascal Aniva Nsussa, and logger Isaias “Tira Camisa,” a former Renamo major.
