Mozambique: Maputo wakes up to reinforced police presence, closed streets ahead of Mondlane's ...

Tree trunks placed across the N1 by unknown individuals on Saturday in the Lungodzi area of the road, the scene of recent shootings, were still lying there after more than 48 hours, yesterday’s edition of Diario da Zambezia reports.
So far, neither the National Road Administration nor the Defence and Security Forces have removed them, fearing that they be a trap set up by armed Renamo men who could just be waiting for people to go and remove the logs to attack them while they are at it.
Road users are forced to slow down to a crawl in order to circumvent the obstacles, putting them at increased risk of attack because, writes the DZ report, while at this slowing down of the ride, anything can happen.
