In Zambézia, three individuals, one of whom is a member of the Mozambique police force and the others of Chinese nationality, have been detained on suspicion of having carried out armed robberies.
Zambézia police spokesman Miguel Caetano said on Tuesday that a gang of four individuals had raided Mopeia district headquarters, stolen forty-nine rounds of ammunition and recovered 120,000 meticais which had been taken from the stall of a merchant of foreign nationality.
The defendants were presented to the press yesterday at Quelimane Second Police Station, where they are awaiting trial. All of them, including the member of the police, deny their involvement in the robberies.
Caetano did not rule out the possibility of them being part of the gang that was being sought in Mopeia district. “It all culminated in the neutralisation of the gang and the seizure of a Toyota off-road vehicle used in their raids,” he said.
