Seven thousand and two hundred young people from Inhambane province will be trained in hotel and tourism skills under a partnership between the government of Inhambane, Consultancy and Training in Industrial Security in Mozambique (MISAT) and the Institute of Global Excellence of Mozambique (GEM Institute).
The training aims to enable young people to take advantage of opportunities in the province and to reduce the import of labour in the hotel and tourism sector.
The “Skilling the Nation” project intends to make Inhambane a reference in the area of hotel education, operational director of MISAT Nércia Mazive says.
The government of Inhambane and partners met in Maputo this Wednesday to discuss the implementation of the project, deciding that the first districts of the “land of good people” to benefit will be Govuro, Inhassoro, Mabote and Vilanculos.
The expectation is that a number of economic sectors will benefit from the programme.
“If we have more and more young Mozambicans occupying these areas [hospitality and tourism],” Vilanculos administrator Galiza Matos Jr. explained, there will be “consequently, more and more work (…). Money will be circulating in Mozambican families, with which they will buy products, from other Mozambicans”.
Mabote administrator Carlos Mussanhane said the objective of the project went beyond merely reducing the import of labour, as the beneficiaries would also be able to work across borders.
The training will take place in the Hotel-Escola in Inhambane, which has been made available to the GEM Institute and SMS Catering – a company specialising in industrial catering, representative of the Secretary of State for Inhambane Samuel Júnior said.
In a first phase, the training will be carried out by international trainers, but it is expected that, in the near future, Mozambicans will be prepared to train other compatriots to internationally recognised standards in hospitality and tourism.
