The Xidiminguana concert scheduled for this Friday (August 12) at the Eduardo Mondlane University Cultural Centre in Maputo has been postponed due to lack of sponsorship, Noticias revealed yesterday.
The show was meant to be a celebration of the eightieth birthday of Xidiminguana, stage name of Domingos Honwana, on the 3rd of this month, as well as his 65-year career.
“The idea was to organize a concert including a tribute to Xidiminguana but we failed to get enough support. We also didn’t manage to get sound and light equipment up to the scale of the event,” organiser Victorino Mazuze explained.
Mazuze, a friend of Xidiminguana, assured Noticias that the concert was not cancelled. “We haven’t cancelled the event, just decided to postpone it to improve some organisational issues so that the concert can take place as planned and be a true homage to Xidiminguana, an artist who continues to lend his wisdom to the development of Mozambican music,” he said.
