The World Bank is to provide US$80 million (EUR 67.7 million) for disaster risk management activities in Mozambique, an official source said.
Provided just as the rainy season is approaching, the money will help operationalise a national fund under the authority of the National Institute of Disaster Management (INGC)
Mozambique faces its worst meteorological risks between December and March of each year, particularly floods and cyclones from the Indian Ocean.
The allocation of the new funding is the result of a study on the economic impact of natural disasters.
