The World Bank will provide US$5 million to improve the water supply system in Mocuba, Zambezia province, National Director of Water Supply and Sanitation, Nilton Trindade, has announced.
The director acknowledged that the funds may not be sufficient for a full intervention, but promised it would mitigate the lack of water in the area.
The government had planned to build a dam on the Licungo river in Mocuba, but that had not happened.
Trindade however said that the US$5 million in question was specifically to improve the water supply system, and that the government would mobilise funds for the construction of the Licungo dam later.
Currently, only 54% of the population in Zambézia province has running water.
