A woman was arrested by the police for allegedly selling cakes made with cannabis sativa, commonly known as ‘suruma’, in the immediate vicinity of a school.
According to Paulo Nazaré, police spokesman in the city of Maputo, the woman was unmasked after students told parents that they felt unwell after eating the cakes.
“After repeated complaints, we identified the lady and found that the cakes were in fact made with suruma leaves,” Jornal Notícias quotes Nazaré as saying.
Nazaré also announced that police had seized a suitcase containing various types of narcotics at Maputo International Airport at the end of last week. The authorities are working on the assumption that the bag is a ‘mail order’ of some description and are carrying out investigations to determine the origin and apprehend its intended recipient.
