A 35-year-old woman was found dead near her home in the Machava neighbourhood, Matola municipality, at dawn today.
According to eye witnesses, the woman’s body was found only hours after she was picked up by PRM agents for alleged violation of the public calamity decree.
The local population is indignant at the police after finding Dona Benigna lifeless in the location shown above, only hours after she was reportedly picked up by the Defence and Security Forces at her residence as a result of having her ‘barraca’ open.
The actual perpetrators of the crime remain so far unidentified, but the family holds the police responsible.
Residents of the neighbourhood say the body shows signs of aggression, and it is believed that she was raped.
Police in Maputo province have promised to comment in due course.
