Two weeks after the collapse of the bridge over the Inhangome River in the Quelimane district of Zambézia, the population in the area is busy sinking supports and building decking to minimise their inconvenience.
The work is proceeding without any technical support road and bridge-building companies, residents claiming to have received only ropes, hammer and nails from Quelimane City Council.
Since the bridge collapsed on the 19th of this month, both the municipal and district governments have proved unable to replace the timber structure, built as a cost of about seven million meticais in 2013
The population expected to finish the bridge on Monday.
