Under the theme “Invest to Achieve Universal Access in Health Services”, the conference is occurring within the efforts to expand health facilities in Mozambique, as well as accelerating the training of human resources, which will contribute to implementing the presidential initiative “One District, one Hospital”.
Jani told reporters in Maputo, that the international conference seeks to mobilise financial resources to conclude construction that is already under way, and to establish commitments to partnerships in investment in health.
The event hopes to rehabilitate, requalify and equip the district hospitals, as well as strengthening partnerships with the introduction of an integrated plan of infrastructures and the development of human resources.
“We are sure that the contributions resulting from the conference will help strengthen the health service”, said Jani.
It would provide an opportunity to identify “creative and innovative solutions” for financing the health sector, he added. It would also open opportunities to improve various health indicators, notably the number of beds per 1,000 inhabitants, the number of health units per 10,000 inhabitants, and the number of health professionals per 10,000 inhabitants.
The conference is organized by the Mozambican government, in partnership with the WHO, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Housing Agency (UN-Habitat). Around 250 Mozambican and international guests are expected to participate in the conference.
