National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) spokesman Ali Mussa confirmed instances of cheating in the weight of domestic gas at a press conference in Maputo on Monday reporting on activities carried out during February.
Ali Mussa said that the INAE had concluded that there was vitiation of the weight of cooking gas by the national companies certified to fill cylinders, explaining that cylinders were not being filled to capacity.
For example, “We find that one, two, three or more kilos of gas are subtracted, depending on the capacity of the cylinder,” Mussa said. Customers are getting less gas than they pay for..
Mussa said that INAE teams were working with companies involved in filling and selling cooking gas in the cities of Maputo, Matola, Xai-Xai, Inhambane, Beira and Nampula, urging them to correct these, to some extent, criminal anomalies.
The source said that, during the month of February, the INAE inspected a total of 1,462 economic units and applied fines totalling 2,600,000 meticais for conducting activities without observing established rules.
