Districts in Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane provinces are today under yellow alert for strong wind with gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour.
Mozambique’s National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) says the change in weather may arrive tonight and, at sea, the wind may create generate waves up to 4.0 metres in height south of the 24th parallel.
Yellow alert, the third highest on a scale of four, indicates a ‘risky’ situation. The National Institute of Meteorology cites among the dangers listed: dust and sand storms; roofs of precarious housing going adrift; trees and energy and telecommunications poles blowing over; small boats going adrift; and reduced visibility at sea.
INAM therefore urges the observing of precautionary measures.
