Mozambique: Man arrested with elephant tusks, two others escape in Mágoè, Tete province
The National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) predicts the occurrence of strong winds and moderate to heavy rains, accompanied by severe thunderstorms, on the southern tip of the Mozambican coast from today.
According to INAM, the winds could reach 60 kilometers per hour and their intensity could cause sea agitation, with waves up to four meters high.
Due to the risks associated with the phenomenon, the institute recommends taking precautionary and safety measures, especially to bathers and small boats. The phenomenon, according to a statement sent to us, will take place in the province of Maputo, particularly in the districts of Matutuíne, Boane, Namaacha, Manhiça, Marracuene, Moamba, Magude, as well as in the cities of Maputo and Matola.
In Gaza Province, the districts of Bilene, Guijá, Chibuto, Mabalane, Massingir, Massangena, Chibuto, Chicualacuala, Chigubo and the cities of Chókwè and Xai-Xai will be affected.
INAM explains the phenomenon as a result of “the passage of a system of low pressure associated with a crest of high pressures of the Atlantic Ocean that will cause strong atmospheric instability on the south of the country.”
