Minimum temperatures could be below ten degrees Celsius, in the south of the country, starting this Thursday and the National Institute of Meteorology forecasts that the peak of winter will be recorded on Friday, especially in the interior districts of Maputo and Gaza provinces.
According to INAM, the cold front in the south of the country is due to intensify in the next 48 hours.
“The forecast is that from today [Wednesday], we may have some occurrence of thunderstorms and some light rains, mainly along the coastal strip of the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane,” says meteorologist Acácio Tembe
“Starting tomorrow [16 June, Thursday], temperatures will drop dramatically. Maximum temperatures will be between 21 to 20 degrees Celsius and minimums, in several districts, could drop to below 10 degrees Celsius. Even for Maputo we are predicting a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius for Friday. Some districts in Maputo and Gaza provinces will have very low temperatures, especially the interior districts,” warns Tembe.
Minimum temperatures are recorded during the dawn and early hours of the day.
INAM says that the low temperatures are caused by a very active cold front, which was felt a few days ago in Cape Town, South Africa.
“This entire southern region of Mozambique will record very low temperatures, but the areas that will stand out the most, are those districts located in the interior: Matutuine, Moamba, Magude and Namaacha, in Maputo province; Massingir, Mapai, Chicualacuala, Massangena, in Gaza province.” says Tembe, who leaves a warning: “We will have the peak on Friday, it should be noted that the peak will be on Friday”.
According to INAM, on Saturday and Sunday, temperatures are forecast to return to normal, with minimums above 12degrees Celsius.
