Weather Alert: Intense heat wave in southern Mozambique

Mozambique’s National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) is forecasting very hot weather for Wednesday (tomorrow) in Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane provinces, with maximum temperatures of 36 to 42 degrees Celsius.
The areas most affected will be:
- The districts of Matutuine, Namaacha, Boane, Moamba, Magude, Manhiça, Marracuene and the cities of Maputo and Matola, in the Greater Maputo Region.
- The districts of Massingir, Chókwe, Bilene, Limpopo, Chicualacuala, Mapai, Mabalane, Chigubo, Chibuto, Guijá, Chonguene, Mandlakazi and the city of Xai-Xai, in the province of Gaza.
- The districts of Funhalouro, Panda, Inharrime and Zavala in Inhambane province.
A change in the weather is however expected, with heavy to moderate rainfall (30 to 50 millimetres in 24 hours), locally very heavy (over 50 millimetres in 24 hours), accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, by the end of the same day (Wednesday).
