National football coach Abel Xavier says his players will have to be extremely competitive to beat Ghana in the double confrontation on 23 and 27 March in Accra and Maputo and qualify for the Africa Cup of Nation 2017.
“We have to play the two games at a very high level. We will be playing against Ghana, one of the best African teams, and we need to be effective in both defence and attack. It is a game in which there is no room for error,” Xavier said.
The Portuguese coach says he has been working to teach his players the tactics he wants to see implemented. “Training time is short, so you have to pass on a bit of everything,” he said.
Abel Xavier has promised to give players who show potential a chance. “All players will be valued. We value them for the present and for the future,” he said.
The team leaves Maputo on Monday 21 March for the Ghanaian capital, where it will play an all or nothing game. Defeat will mean exiting CAN-2017.
Mozambique occupies the last place in Group H with no points after losing 1-0 to both Rwanda and Mauritius.
