Speaking on Thursday at the opening of the Tenth National Festival of Nyusi Culture in Lichinga, Niassa, Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi said that in all previous phases, it was evident how Mozambicans raised the national flag and cultural diversity high.
“And at every stage we have built our identity project through diverse artistic manifestations. For this reason, we believe that we have here before us and for the next four days the most faithful and representative showcase of our best as a people and nation in relation to artistic-cultural and creative production. With this event that highlights the richness and diversity of our culture, the national and foreign public is expected to be offered quality exhibitions of the different cultural expressions of our Mozambique,” the president said at the opening of the 10th National Culture Festival taking place in Lichinga until next Monday.
Justifying the theme of the festival, “Culture promoting women, identity and sustainable development,” the president said that the women were the guardians of society, guaranteeing as mother and educators the primary transmission of values to the new generations: the bulwark of new foundations and the “assurance of the survival of our species and the manager of our resources”.
During the opening session, the head of state watched a dance paying tribute to Queen Bibi Achivandjila I, wife of King Mataka, for her bravery in the struggle against slavery in Mozambique between 1870 and 1920, the year in which she lost his life in the district of Majune, in Niassa.
Nyusi praised the Niassa government for its efforts in organising this great celebration of Mozambican culture, one of the pillars of the promotion of national unity and integrated development.
