The shortage of water in the Chokwe irrigation system is becoming a source of conflict between producers in the Gaza province region.
The most recent case occurred in Nwachicoloane, a region under the management of Hydraulic Company of Chokwe (HICEP), and involves two local producers getting into a confrontation over what little water is available for irrigation.
Agostinho Mapulasse, a farmer in the area for about three decades, recently had his water pump first vandalised and then removed from his farm altogether by what he alleges to be one of his fellow producers.
