Water supply restrictions in the Mozambican capital and the city of Matola will be eased from Wednesday, the government announced yesterday.
Public utilities will supply water for eight hours a day instead of for a few hours every other day, as since February.
Relief comes thanks to improved storage levels at the Pequenos Libombos dam, which now stands at 29 percent of capacity, one percentage point higher than the one recorded a year ago, according to National Directorate of Water Resources bulletins consulted by Lusa.
“The water stored is not enough to fully lift restrictions,” Council of Ministers spokeswoman Ana Comana said at the end of yesterday’s cabinet meeting.
The situation, she added, “continues to require careful management”.
