Watch: Yet another version of the Matola kidnapping: not a kidnapping but a police operation

When a woman was seen allegedly being abducted from a public thoroughfare in the Matola C neighbourhood on Monday afternoon, fear quickly spreading among the public.

The unknown woman was reportedly snatched by two armed individuals while driving though Matola C on Monday afternoon in what witnesses said was a kidnapping.

But later that day, a police source told Miramar that the ‘kidnapping’ was in fact a plainclothes operation, part of the investigation into the kidnapping in Maputo three weeks ago of businessman Carlos Camurdine.

In fact, the woman whose trip was so abruptly interrupted had already been restored to freedom and her vehicle returned to her.
