The daily rise in food prices at the Zimpeto wholesale market in Maputo is prompting protests from retailers against the rising price of cabbage, tomatoes and other fresh produce.
There was unrest this Wednesday morning when resellers prevented cabbage suppliers from selling their product from trucks at allegedly speculative prices.
And it is not just the price of cabbage that is giving Zimpeto retailers a headache. Other prices have also risen.
Suppliers of cabbage and tomatoes declined to provide any explanation of the increase in the prices of these products, while retailers were demanding a National Inspection of Economic Activities team attend to the matter.
