Six walk-through booths for COVID-19 tests were officially handed over yesterday to the National Institute of Health by the Korean Government through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Office in Mozambique.
This donation has been made in KOICA’s effort to support the Government of Mozambique to protect frontline healthcare workers and support strengthening testing capacity.
South Korea’s walk-through testing booth, often referred to as South Korea’s ‘walk-thru’, allows healthcare workers to collect samples without having direct contact with the person getting tested, thereby reducing the risk of infection and ensuring safety of healthcare workers from the coronavirus.
The handover ceremony held in Marracuene, Maputo Province was attended by the Korean Ambassador to Mozambique, H.E. Mr. Yeo Sung Jun and the Minister of Health of the Republic of Mozambique, Professor Armindo Tiago, including KOICA Mozambique Office Country Director, Mr. Young Sun Jung and Director General of INS, Dr. Ilesh Jani.
Ambassador H.E. Mr. Yeo reaffirmed South Korea’s willingness to support the fight against COVID-19
Professor Armindo Tiago welcomed KOICA’s support, which he considered to be a significant step in achieving one of the Mozambican Government’s priorities; protecting the frontline healthcare workers from the virus.
KOICA has played an active role in supporting COVID-19 response iin Mozambique. In June this year, KOICA donated 3,000 specimen collection kits to INS in collaboration with the MozKOICA Alumni Association and supported the Matola Industrial and Commercial Institute with cleaning and disinfecting materials in November.
