Mozambique: India provides $1M in medicines, prosthetic limbs

Mozambique on Monday (September 14) reported a further 213 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the cumulative number of infections to 5,482 of which 2,419 are active.
This is the second consecutive day that the country has announced more than 200 new infections in just 24 hours, after 229 positive cases were announced on Sunday (September 13).
Of the 213 cases announced on Monday, the majority, 121, are from the city of Maputo.
“The results we share today (September 14) are from the samples tested which were collected between the 4th to the 12th of September this year. Of these, 129 samples (60.5%) were collected on 9 September and 37 samples (17.4%) were collected on 10 September,” reads the MISA brief [available, in Portuguese, HERE] .
“Of the new suspected cases tested, 1,042 came back negative and 213 returned positive for Covid-19,” MISAU adds.
“All 213 new cases reported today are locally transmitted. Of these, 209 cases are Mozambican nationals and four cases are foreigners. Of these, two cases are individuals of Zimbabwean nationality, one case is an individual of Filipino nationality and one case is an individual of Pakistani nationality,” the brief reads.
“Of the 213 new cases, 114 (53.5%) are male and 99 (46.5%) are female. Eight cases are children under 5 years of age and four cases are individuals over 65 years of age. The age group of 25-34 years old registered the largest number of cases (58), corresponding to 27.2% of the total cases reported today,” MISAU states .
All cases reported yesterday are in isolation at home and the process of mapping their contacts is underway.
From Sunday to Monday, 64 more people were reported free of the new coronavirus, which increased the number of recoveries to 3,024. All the recovered patients are Mozambican nationals, of which three are in Cabo Delgado province, twenty in Niassa, one in Zambezia, ten in Tete and thirty in Maputo City.
The country currently has a cumulative 122 people hospitalised. Of these, 26 are under medical care in isolation centres: one in Nampula province, one in Tete, one in Gaza and twenty-three in Maputo city. In the preceding 24 hours, we recorded one hospital discharge and seven new hospitalisations in Maputo city.
The number of deaths remains at 35, with, it should be recalled, four more deaths attributed to other causes.
The Deputy National Director of Public Health, Benigna Matsinhe, warned that transmission is reaching worrying levels in greater Maputo. “The situation is becoming worrying in the city and province of Maputo,” she said.
