Dozens of Renamo militants, men and women, were arrested by the police in their Tete city delegation, “allegedly for causing confusion that culminated in the burning of a car belonging to a suspected Frelimo member,” O País reports.
During its intervention, the police fired tear gas. Thus, the streets of the city of Tete were deserted and the police were on the streets looking for elements of Renamo who fled their delegation.
Renamo says five of its members were shot in front of the delegation and may have lost their lives.
The party says it has evacuated its head of list, though to an unsafe location.
