Last week, the M/V Floriana VI, owned by MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, docked in the port of Beira, central Mozambique, Cornelder de Moçambique has announced.
The post-Panamax container ship, measuring 285 metres long and 40 metres wide, sets a new record for the largest ship ever to call at the port.
The Port of Beira has seen significant growth in containerised and other cargo in recent years as a result of the aggressive commercial strategy that CdM has been developing in the region’s markets, as well as continued investment in improving accessibility to the port, the acquisition of modern handling equipment and expansion of storage areas, and the introduction of new technologies and systems to optimise operations – all factors that contribute to improving port performance and giving customers and users greater confidence.
Investment in dredging the access channel, manoeuvring basin and berths has also been decisive in enabling large-capacity ships of the Panamax and post-Panamax types to call at the Port of Beira more regularly.
