Mozambique: Independence day attracts vendors to stadium, optimism about future
The city of Nampula woke to the sounds of gunfire on Monday morning following disturbances by a group of census pollsters claiming payment of snack allowance during the registration of households for the project ‘Universal’ bed-net distribution program.
TVM reports that the police used whatever means were at their disposal to calm tempers, resulting in one slightly injured and dozens of protesters being detained in Nampula’s 1st Precinct police station.
