A group of 40 Portuguese-speaking specialists and health-care workers participate from Monday, in Maputo, in training the trainers of rapid response teams, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said.
“The training is to strengthen the country’s ability for early warning and the management of national and global health risks,” explained the organisation that organises the four-day event.
The specialists are from Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and Sao Tome and Principe, in addition to Mozambican participants.
The organisation said that specialists from Angola had already been trained in Luanda in August.
Mozambique has a high number of public health emergencies, according to WHO, highlighting that more than 80% are of infectious origin.
Response to Ebola and other outbreaks “emphasised the vital role of rapid response teams,” the organisation said.
