The Mozambican Order of Physicians says the Attorney General is misinterpreting the law in affirming that non-enrolled doctors can legally practice in Mozambique. The Order argues that both Mozambican doctors and foreigners must be enrolled in order to practice legally and insists that the Penal Code provides for sanctions against those who do not.
The Order also says that the law establishing the institution was approved by parliament and is clear as to its powers. It points out that no recognition or approval by the Ministries of Education or Health can legitimately usurp the role of the Order.
The Order of Physicians says that there should be no differentiation between its role and that of other professional bodies whose role is to discipline professions, and argues that it is necessary to step aside and let the institutions carry out their functions without interference.
