Journalist Daniel Cuambe died on Satuday morning at the Clínica do Hospital Central de Maputo after a prolonged illness. He was one of the founders of Mozambican journalism, with more than 40 years in the profession.
Daniel Cuambe was born on September 14, 1957 and began his professional career in the renowned Tempo magazine. He prospered there and subsequently applied to and joined the staff of the newspaper Noticias.
A few years later, for social and professional reasons, he joined Notícias da Beira (currently Diário de Moçambique). He then returned to Notícias as editor of the Economics and Business Section, where he was responsible for collecting, writing, editing and publishing the supplement on national and international economic and business matters.
Cuambe’s professional excellence secured him appointments as Mozambican correspondent of the Portuguese daily newspaper Diário de Notícias, press advisor to then prime minister Luísa Diogo, and, until his death on Saturday (July 1), the position of editorial secretary of Notícias.
He will be buried on Wednesday in the cemetery of his home village of Maleic in Gaza province. His interment will be preceded by a funeral mass tomorrow at Maputo Cathedral and on Wednesday at the Mission of Maleice.
Cuambe leaves a widow and two children.
