Another Mozambican has been killed in the ‘Rand Land’, Miramar reports, this time a passenger on the Jo’burg-Maputo bus, murdered as he tried neutralize a gang of robbers.
The hold-up occurred at around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The bus was carrying 22 passengers; three were infiltrated armed robbers, who seized mobile phones, wallets and cash.
The passengers, mostly people seeking a better life in neighbouring South Africa, say that, despite the attacks, they have no way of abandoning their cross border trade activity or jobs in South Africa, since job opportunities in Mozambique are so scarce.
They call on the authorities to put a stop to this scourge, now of some years duration. But the suspects made good their escape, and the matter is now in the hands of the police.
