Screen grab: TVM
Maputo municipality is committed to removing all illegal structures built on the roofs of buildings in the country’s capital.
Silva Magaia, councillor for Territorial Planning, Environment and Urbanization at Maputo Municipal Council, says that such constructions, in addition to violating municipal regulations, endanger the lives and health of the residents of the buildings in question.
Young people say they prefer to extend upwards instead of building on the outskirts of the capital, in places such as Boquisso or Marracuene, the reporter notes.. “When you are [living] there, far away, in the bush, it’s not easy to get to work [in Maputo] on time,” one man tells TVM.
“People prefer to be close to the city, close to everything, where they will spend less, and waste less time,” another interviewee says.
Councillor Magaia says that, after receiving any notice for demolition, there will be 15 days to appeal, in case there is anything irregular about the demolition notice.
