A happy hippo, believed to have crossed the border between Kwa-Zulu Natal and Mozambique, was filmed living his best life in the crystal-clear waters off the coast of Ponta do Ouro…
The video, credited to Thiago Fonseca of Golo Agency, was shared on YouTube and Facebook, and shows the lone hippo enjoying the waves and sunshine in the tourist-free zone. The footage was filmed using a drone.
“No tourists were present — this solitary, majestic hippo had the time of its life frolicking and enjoying the water all to itself,’ reads the vide caption.
While holidaymakers have cancelled plans, and the two countries are in lockdown, the hippo had the beach all to himself. ‘
Ponta do Ouro’s tourism info Facebook page also shared the video with the caption, “SURPRISE VISITOR from SOUTH AFRICA TO PONTA DO OURO MOZAMBIQUE – Defying the travel Ban!! No Tourists – but a lonely Hippo popped in for a visit earlier this week, from the Kosi Bay Lakes next door.”
