Speaking at The Trialogue Business in Society Conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday (May 16), Machel urged businesses to tackle the issue of unequal pay

The humanitarian and founder of the Graça Machel Trust delivered the keynote address to business people and civil society on the importance of including women in key leadership positions.

“Its not charity. It’s not that only because I am a woman advocate… it is to improve how your companies are going to perform, how they are going to be profitable and how you are going to have a better working environment if you do so,” she said.

Machel also urged business people to empower women in leadership positions and address the gender pay gap. The gap is currently estimated at 15-17 per cent.
