Watch: Fire destroys warehouse of Maputo supermarket – AIM

A large fire caused extensive damage to the warehouse of the supermarket Game in the city of Maputo early on Monday morning.

The spokesperson for the fire brigade, David Cumbane, told AIM that when the fire engines arrived at around two in the morning part of the warehouse had already been lost in the fire. Therefore, the main task of the firefighters was to stop the flames spreading to the shop.

Cumbane revealed that the shop is intact but the warehouse has been largely destroyed. He added that his service will now move on to discovering the possible causes of the fire, which will involve specialist personnel.

Nobody was injured by the blaze as it took place early in the morning when no workers were present other than a security guard.

Game is located along the Costa do Sol, and is one of the largest supermarkets in Maputo. Another Game store is located in Matola.
