The city of Beira, in Sofala, is the most recent location chosen by Afonso Dhlakama to talk to journalists and members of his party by telephone. The underlying theme was of course peace, and the Renamo leader promised to announce a permanent ceasefire within days, if the Frelimo government is cooperative.
Speaking by telephone, the Renamo leader clarified that the previous truces were not the result of negotiations, but were his initiative, he having realised that the Renamo attacks were regressing the country.
Dhlakama also said that Renamo and Frelimo did not manufacture people so that they could kill them.
At this moment, the truce announced in March will last until 5 May.
