The Central Committee of the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo), the ruling party, will gather on Friday to assess the country’s governance, its spokesperson said on Wednesday.
During the session, the Mozambican government will present a report on its performance for discussion by the members of the central committee, Caifadine Manasse told a press conference in Maputo.
The body will also evaluate the results of the Nampula mayoral by-election, where Frelimo candidate Amisse Cololo lost in the second round with 42 percent of the vote, against 58 percent for Paulo Vahanle of the opposition National Resistance of Mozambique (Renamo) party.
“As far as the Nampula electoral process is concerned, the central committee will make the assessment and then deliver its opinion on what actually happened,” the Frelimo spokesman said, attributing the main opposition party’s victory with the declaration of support by the Democratic Movement of Mozambique, the party that previously managed the municipality but which lost in the first round.
The meeting agenda also includes a debate on the management of the country’s 53 municipalities in the context of preparations for the October 10 municipal elections.
