Watch: Businessman kidnapped in Maputo on Tuesday

A 61-year-old businessman was kidnapped on Tuesday afternoon in Maputo City as he was leaving his company. Eye-witnesses say the businessman was taken by two men who previously fired one shot [into the air].

The victim is the owner of Riplex, a manufacturer located along Avenida de Moçambique.

Witnesses report that the abductors’ action was swift, only having attracted attention when they fired into the air before driving off with the victim.

Police confirmed the abduction and came to the scene to ascertain the facts.

Earlier this year, still in Maputo City, another businessman was kidnapped while leaving his workplace. At the time, as in this case, the criminals also opened fire into the air.
