Mozambique: From today, Nampula and Zambézia in the path of Cyclone Judy
Miramar
Residents living near the national sports stadium and the market in Maputo’s Zimpeto neighbourhood are outraged at the stench of untreated wastewater flowing from the two facilities.
Some commercial establishments have even been forced to close temporarily as a result.
The problem, residents complain, is wastewater leaking from pipes connecting the residences of the Olympic village to the stadium.
Residents and workers in the area alike are demanding a quick resolution of the problem, as the smell, they say, is unbearable.
Many commercial establishments claim that they have already lost customers, and ‘Closed’ signs have become commonplace in the area.
