In an action aimed at improving the quality of teaching and training of students at provincial level, the ‘Vodacom Faz Crescer’ [‘Vodacom Makes You Grow’] project yesterday delivered 20 computers, 300 books, connectivity and the Instant School software suite to the Canongola Primary School in the City of Tete.
This is Vodacom’s second delivery this month, after Rotanda Secondary School, in Sussundega, Manica province, got its own instant library on February 2.
‘Vodacom Faz Crescer’ is the mobile operator’s corporate responsibility project, and supports education through the provision of libraries with books in physical and digital formats. Digital volumes can be accessed through computers connected to the Internet and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Digital libraries are part of ‘Instant Schools’ concept developed by the Vodafone Foundation. They are easy-to-use learning technologies that promote knowledge through math exercises, teaching and reading books and video lessons. Local content such as textbooks can easily be added.
The delivery of the library to the Canongola Complete Primary School was overseen by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vodacom, Salimo Abdula, accompanied by members of the staff of the company at central and local level.
The Canongola Primary School, originally a primary school teaching 1st and 2nd cycles, was recently promoted and now also teaches the secondary curriculum. It is hoped the new resources will help the school meet its new teaching responsibilities.
What is the project ‘Vodacom Faz Crescer’
The ‘Vodacom Faz Crescer’ project is divided into four curriculum areas. ‘Ler Faz Crescer’ [‘Reading Makes You Grow’] is an initiative to stimulate reading; ‘Música Faz Crescer’ [Music Makes You Grow’]consists of concerts that promote Mozambican culture and music; ‘Pensar Faz Crescer’ [‘Thinking Makes You Grow’] promotes civil society debates to create solutions to the problems of education in the province; and ‘Dar Faz Crescer’ [‘Giving Makes You Grow’] stimulates fundraising activities to contribute to the education of each of the provinces.
‘Vodacom Faz Crescer’ has given renewed impetus to previous social responsibility education projects. This is the case of ‘Explicador 84’ [‘Tutor 84’], a service launched last year that allows students to test their knowledge by answering multiple-choice questions sent by Vodacom through the message box.
Questions encompass curricula in grades 6-12 and allow for fun learning while rewarding students with credits and bonuses.
