Mozambique: Mondlane's party to hold Executive Committee meeting this Tuesday
The visa facilitation agreement signed by Mozambique and Angola in Maputo in February 2016, will increase economic cooperation between the two countries, Angolan Foreign Minister Georges Chikoti said in Luanda on Friday before departing for Maputo.
“The visa facilitation agreement signed between the two states will make travel for business people between the two countries easier,” he said.
“The most notable thing about the visit by then-president Guebuza to Angola was the desire of both countries to speed up their coming together, particularly in the economic field,” he said, and this rapprochement was much discussed during President Filipe Nyusi’s visit.
During Mozambican leader’s visit, he said, “it was found that there is great potential between the Angolans and Mozambicans who would like to see closer ties particularly between the private sectors of the two countries”.
Chikoti said that Angolan interior minister, Ângelo da Veigas Tavares, signed the Mozambican part of the visa facilitation agreement in Maputo in February, and reported that it had been approved by the Council of Ministers of Angola and was awaiting the approval of the National Assembly.
The minister, who is on an official three-day visit to Mozambique, said that both parties would be exploring opportunities for cooperation in energy and hydrocarbons, as Mozambique recently discovered oil in its territory and Angola was keen to collaborate in this area.
The minister also reaffirmed that bilateral relations between Angola and Mozambique were excellent and that the current mission to Maputo would only serve to bolster them.
In addition to political and diplomatic relations, Angola and Mozambique cooperate mainly in the areas of police and security, transport, fisheries, tourism, energy and water, agriculture and oil.
