Mozambique: Health Minister meets with Maputo hospital doctors to halt strike threat

In a scenario described by local authorities as “worrisome”, the number of teachers and students in Vilankulo schools infected Covid-19 rose from 14 to 58 in one week.
According to a document seen by ‘O País’, the local government proposes the suspension of classes for two weeks at secondary schools in Mucoque, which up until Friday had registered four cases; Graça Machel, with five cases; Vilankulo, also with five cases; Padre Gumero, with 32 cases – the highest number so far; Gamela EP 1 and 2, with four cases, Vilankulo EP 1 and 2, with three cases; Aeroporto EP 1 and 2, with one case; and 18 de Abril EP 1 and 2, with four cases.
The total number of cases registered in schools in Vilankulo so far is 43 students and 15 teachers.
According to Vilankulo administrator Edmundo Galiza Matos Júnior, speaking by telephone to our editorial staff, the proposal, aimed at curbing the rate of spread of Covid-19 in the district’s schools, was sent to the provincial government for further consideration.
