Mozambique: President-elect criticizes vandalism during post-election protests
Vietnamese State President Truong Tan Sang is expected in Maputo on Friday, after visiting Tanzania and before leaving for Iran as he is scheduled to pay state visits to Tanzania, Mozambique and Iran between March 9 and 15 at the invitation of his counterparts in the three countries John Magufuli of Tanzania, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi of Mozambique, and Hassan Rouhani of Iran..
President Sang will be accompanied by his wife, Mai Thi Hahn, and five cabinet ministers responsible for industry, communications, agriculture, health and water. His delegation will also include 51 businesspeople.
In the two African nations, the visiting president will meet with local leaders to discuss measures to cement cooperation in trade, agriculture, infrastructure, telecommunication, and tourism.
Viettel Group, the largest mobile network operator in Vietnam which is managed by the Ministry of Defence, is currently carrying out several investment projects in both Tanzania and Mozambique.
Vietnam and Iran have developed friendly relations, Nguyen Quang Khai, former Vietnamese Ambassador to the Middle East said, adding that the ties between the two parties in economics and trade have yet to reach their full potential.
Iranian authorities have been considering several Vietnamese projects on oil inspection and exploration, according to the erstwhile ambassador.
“The state visit of President Sang to Iran is timely in that the United States and other European countries have just lifted sanctions against the country [in Western Asia], bringing about great opportunities for Vietnam – Iran cooperation in oil and gas, industry, agriculture, and other areas,” Khai said.
