A South Korean vice minister will visit Senegal and Angola this week to get African countries to put pressure on North Korea so it will give up its nuclear weapons program, the foreign ministry said Monday.
Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam will visit the two African countries during his trip planned from Tuesday to Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said,
On the first leg of his trip, Kim is scheduled to hold talks with his counterpart in Senegal, Mame Baba Cisse, on Wednesday to ask for the African country’s continued participation in the United Nations’ efforts to slap sanctions on North Korea, according to the ministry.
The vice foreign ministers will also delve into their bilateral relations and discuss ways to step up cooperation over regional security issues in the international arena, the ministry said.
Lim will then travel to Angola to call on that country’s support for Seoul’s policy on denuclearizing North Korea and discuss ways to tighten collaboration on a range of issues, it also said.
The U.N. is seeking to adopt a fresh round of sanctions on North Korea after the country’s nuclear test on Sept. 9, just eight months after Pyongyang detonated another nuke in January.
