FAO warns of unequal access to farm funding for women and youth in Mozambique
The Vanduzi agro-industrial company in Mozambique’s central Manica province is growing and exporting vegetables to the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and South Africa.
Quality manager Amos Ubisse, quoted by Noticias, says that baby corn (maize), piri-piri, broccoli, soybeans, green beans feature in the list of exports.
Ubisse says the company can process 200 tons of vegetables a week, but current production is obly about 35 tons. Production is reach capacity in the medium term.
Founded in 2004, the Vanduzi Company is currently managing an area of 1,353 hectares of a potential total of 2,450, with production volumes around 800 tonnes per year.
Vanduzi is one of the few companies in the country that operate all year round, and has its own financing and up-to-date mechanisation and irrigation technologies, employing more than 2,300 workers.
In addition to millet and piri-piri, the Vanduzi Company produces squash, green beans, sweet peas, peas and watermelons seasonally, and especially in winter.
The company also markets piri-piri and baby corn grown by small farmers in the Balasse region near Vanduzi.
