US embassy condemns murder of Mahamudo Amurane, Mayor of the city of Nampula

In the light of the events leading up to the tragic death of His Excellency Mahamudo Amurane, President of the Municipality of Nampula City, on October 4, 2017, the Embassy of the United States of America in Mozambique expresses its sincere condolences to the people of Nampula, and especially the family and friends of President Amurane.
The Embassy was privileged to have a strong working relationship with President Amurane, and we greatly appreciate his leadership in our joint development projects and his passion for improving the lives of his fellow citizens in Nampula. His assassination is a loss to all of us.
The United States Embassy condemns, in the strongest possible terms, those responsible for this brutal and detestable act and hopes that a prompt and thorough investigation of this crime will bring its perpetrators to justice.
