At around 5:00 a.m. this Tuesday (16-05), armed men kidnapped the owner of the Fábrica de Confecções Sabina clothing factory on Avenida Karl Marx in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique.
According to local sources, at the time of her kidnapping, Sheinaz Gani – the daughter of Faruk Gani — was accompanied by two workers, who were threatened by the kidnappers who, by all indications, had already been following the businesswoman’s routine.
‘Integrity’ has learned that units of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) and the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) were mobilized to the site in order to follow clues in a crime the likes of which have haunted Mozambican families for more than a decade, with businessmen languishing in captivity at the hands of the kidnappers for more than eight months, and some even losing their lives.
Several families of Indian descent have already left the country because of the kidnappings, undermining projects that have contributed extensively to the development of Mozambique.
This Tuesday, businesswoman Sheinaz Gani, whose company is dedicated to the production and sale of professional uniforms, became the latest victim of organized criminal kidnapping syndicates.
Yesterday’s kidnapping brings to 29 the number of abductions in the country since 2021.
